Hadassah-WIZO, a Canadian and International organization has been active in Peterborough since 1924. Early fundraising was directed for the "United Palestine Appeal", for the Canadian Hadassah school at Nahalal and prior to WW II, rescuing children from Germany. Youth Aliyah involvement began in 1945. Members

Past fundraising activities have included bazaars, garage sales, antique appraisals, doll house shows, Israeli fashion shows, and Chocolate Sunday. The monthly meetings held in members' homes have kept the Jewish community together in times of minimal community activity. This group continues to provide a significant driving force for the health of Beth Israel. In the 1980s, Peterborough Hadassah-Wizo sponsored annual public affairs seminars for city leaders to educate them on the situation in Israel.

The Sisterhood of Beth Israel Synagogue began in 1961. Its purpose was "to strengthen and encourage the observance of the ideals of Judaism and to promote vital Jewish family and community living." Sisterhood raised money in support of synagogue needs such as refreshments, flowers, and the kitchen. At a later date (approx when? The ′90s?), Hadassah and Sisterhood joined forces and became one group.
