Dana Capell recently gave birth to a daughter. Members of the Jewish Community in Peterborough are invited to join Dana and her family at Beth Israel Congregation at 10:00 a.m., Shabbat morning, Heshvan 3, 5679 (November 1, 2008). Celebrate this joyous event and welcome our newest member of the Jewish Community with blessings.

Hebrew in a Day: Hebrew Literacy Program on 4 Heshvan, 5679 (November 2, 2008)

One of the needs expressed during last year's Vision Day was a desire to engage in Hebrew study. Marcy Gilbert has been leading sessions for many years (decades in fact) at synagogues in Toronto, calling them "Hebrew in a Day". Marcy and Rabbi Schachter (her husband) will conduct a full day session for members of the local Jewish Community. After the Hebrew immersion, Beth Israel members should have it easier to follow the portions of the prayer service that is conducted in Hebrew, join in singing the publicly chanted portions and make you a participant rather than a spectator in religious services.

Interested paripants must be prepared to commit to attend the full day. As well, participants should understand that the day's learning and skill development will be re-enforced if they follow-up with practice either alone or preferably together with other members. This programme is not only appropriate for beginners but also for those with some facility in reading Hebrew but wish to become more fluent.

The location is to be announced. We need to know the numbers who wish to attend so adequate Hebrew materials and food can be ordered. Please contact Larry Gillman if you wish to attend.
